This necklace features a dainty circular medal of Our Lady, Star of the Sea. It depicts the Virgin Mary poised gracefully above the ocean waves and enclosed in a archway of stars. It reads, "Stella Maris."

The Marian title of Stella Maris, or Our Lady Star of the Sea, is derived from a translation of her Hebrew name, Miryam, into Latin by St. Jerome in the 5th century. Her Latin name, Stilla Maris, meaning "drop of the sea" later became "Stella Maris" or "Star of the Sea," due to either a transcription error or peasant dialect. Even so, this title of Mary has been embraced by Catholics since the 5th century. Stella Maris is known as the protector of sailors or anyone navigating upon stormy seas.

The medal is available in solid bronze or sterling silver and was hand cast in the United States from an antique piece.
It measures 5/8".

It is strung on a antiqued brass or sterling silver chain, which closes in a lobster clasp.
